General Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?
After signing up and building your profile, you simply provide Brightegg with a design theme. If your theme is approved, it's posted on the Brightegg website for our clients to purchase. Once a client purchases your theme, they use the Brightegg platform to build, launch and manage their website.

How do I make money designing for Brightegg?

As a Brightegg designer, you earn 50% commission each time your design theme is purchased by a Brightegg member. There are two types of design themes you can choose from: Non-exclusive and Exclusive. Non-exclusive themes are sold for $199.00, while exclusive themes sell for $699.00. This is a one-time charge for each theme purchased by a member. So, if your non-exclusive theme is purchased three times in one month, you would earn 50% commission each time that theme is purchased or $298.50.

How much does it cost to join?
Nothing. Zip. Nada. Joining and selling your design themes is free.

Can anyone join?
Yup... anybody can join, but not all submitted designs are put up for sale on the Brightegg website. This is because first and foremost we are looking for design themes that follow the Brightegg Design Theme Guidelines. And yes, there are some subjective components that go into evaluating design themes. Think CSS Mania or CSS Beauty. But generally, if you follow the guidelines and submit a good-looking, professional design theme, you'll see your theme up for sale.

How many different design themes can I sell?
You can sell as many as you like. Some designers may only have one theme, while others may have 20 or more.

What is a Brightegg design theme?
A Brightegg Design Theme is made up of at least three things: an HTML file, a CSS file and images associated with the theme. We recommend, however, that you provide a main homepage layout and secondary page layout along with your CSS file and images. In fact, the best themes have multiple layouts that provide users with more flexibility. Multiple-layout themes are also more attractive for members to purchase. Refer to the Design Theme Guidelines for more info.

How does my design theme get published?
All submitted design themes go into a pending queue for review by a Brightegg team member. Your theme is then either approved or left in a pending queue. If it's approved, you're all set and your design theme will be published for Brightegg members to purchase within 5 business days. If it's left in the pending queue, a Brightegg team member will leave comments as Private Messages giving suggestions and tips on how to improve the design and/or properly apply design guidelines. You'll then have a maximum of two months to update the theme and reflect those requested changes. If in that timeframe the theme has not been updated accordingly, it will be moved to a Deleted Queue. You will still be able to access the theme, but will have a maximum of one month to change it and request undeletion. If that timeframe expires, the theme will be permanently removed from Brightegg.

Nope. Keep sending it in until you get it right.

Can I make changes to a theme once it's published?
Sure. You will be required to resubmit the files, however, which will result in a new review process by Brightegg.

Is there a limit on images I can include with a theme?
There is no set limit but, as all designers know, image-heavy design files can be cumbersome. We know you’ll use good judgment in determining which images (royalty free only permitted) to use.

Can I use any images with my themes?
Only royalty free images will be accepted. Read up on our copyright policy [link to section in terms of use] for more information.

Who buys Brightegg themes?
The primary target audience for Brightegg clientele is small to medium-size businesses and non-profit organizations. Most are professional-type organizations that have a need to be online for one reason or another. Medical offices, real estate agents, lawyers, consultants, coffee shops, towns and regional organizations, churches and photographers. These businesses do not have internal IT departments (or might have one web savvy staffer) and cannot afford to hire an expensive, talented designer. And that's where you come in.

Brightegg pays designers by PayPal or check. To get paid, you must submit Payment Details [link to area in My Account]. Because you are selling a commodity (design themes) with a mark-up, you must provide Brightegg accurate payment information and, if you’re a U.S. resident, taxpayer information. All personal information will be kept private and secure. Brightegg cannot legally relinquish payment to you without your correct taxpayer ID or SSN.

When will I get paid?
Brightegg will pay your Earnings on a monthly basis. Within 30 days following the end of each calendar month, Brightegg will send you a check for Earnings you have earned for the relevant month. However, if the Earnings payable to you for any month are less than $100.00, Brightegg will hold your Earnings until the total amount due is at least $100.00 or until this Agreement is terminated.

Why do I have to wait 30 days to get paid?
This grace period allows us to process orders and resolve customer service issues and refunds. We want to insure our customers (and yours) are delighted with their purchase before the final transaction is complete.

How do I track my earnings?
If you have published design themes for sale, you can track your earnings on your Dashboard. Money owed to you as well as commissions paid to-date will be listed there.

I do not live in the USA. Can I sell on Brightegg?
Yes we can pay you by PayPal or check.
